St Ives CC Press Report
1st Feb 2010
St Ives Cycling Club scooped many top awards at the Northants and District Cycling Association annual award ceremony last Sunday. The championship consists of 10 time trials contested throughout the eastern region on quiet country roads, where local cycling clubs battle against each other for top honours.
Top accolades went to Rachel Smith for outright victory in the Ladies Individual Championship and Terry Cooke for second place in the Veterans Individual Championship.
The clubs top time triallist of last season, Paul Davis, collected the most awards, winning the fastest 25 mile time and second place in both the Overall Championship and the Short Distance Championship.
By fielding a consistently strong team of riders, St Ives CC also came away with best team prize, a much coveted award that the club last won in 2006. Many of the clubs less high profile riders contributed towards the victory, each one scoring points toward the prize.
Members have the briefest rest before the season begins again in earnest in April.
