St Ives CC Press Report
25th Jan 2010
St Ives Cycling Club member Jamie Caldwell scored the clubs best result of the year so far at the latest round of the Hog Hill Winter Series , held at Redbridge, London, on Saturday.
Under grey skies the 50 strong group set off together as one large pack. Several attempts to escape the bunch were nullified as their opponents hung on to the slip steams. After 20 minutes of racing, as legs began to tire, an Elite category rider launched his attack on the uphill section of the closed circuit. Jamie saw his opportunity to form a breakaway from the pack and rode strongly with the two other escapees to build a lead of over one minute on the chasing pack.
After 40 minutes had expired the trio entered their last lap. Jamie launched his sprint passing the Elite rider in the last few metres to the line, clinching second place. At this time of year Jamie was pleased to be showing such promising results, "I'm just pleased to have this sort of form early in the season, I hope I can build on it over the coming months" he said afterwards.
