St Ives CC Press Report
18th Jan 2010
St Ives
Cycling Club recently held a presentation evening to honour the many
achievements of its members. This year
the cycling club had nominated Magpas as its chosen charity and presented them
with a cheque following the fundraising raffle held at the annual dinner.
Magpas
provide an emergency medical team at road accidents and is staffed by highly
trained professionals who offer their services on a completely voluntary basis.
Magpas is a charity solely funded by donations and
receives no money from the NHS or other Government funding. They are proud to
have received recognition for their work by being awarded the Queen’s Award for
Voluntary Service.
Last
year St Ives Cycling club member Terry Cooke was unfortunate enough to be on
the receiving end of Magpas' services, following a fall whilst out on his bike
near Alconbury, and Magpas crews were first in attendance. Cycling club members witnessed firsthand the
excellent care that Magpas provide and prompted them to recognize their
invaluable work.
At the
evening Bryan Carson, a First Responder (volunteer) with Magpas, gave a very
interesting insight into the work of Magpas.
Terry presented Bryan with a cheque and thanked them for their help at
the roadside, "The speed of the response and quality of care was amazing.
If it were not for their help my recovery would have been severely hampered and
I cannot thank them enough" Terry said at the presentation.
